Moving vs. Junk Removal
Our moving customers cleaning out their current place of a residence may sometimes wonder what exactly is the difference between moving and junk removal? The question may initially seem to have a very obvious answer: Moving is moving items from one location to another and junk removal is throwing them out to a dumpster in the most environmental way as possible. Unfortunately, the reality can be a bit more nuanced for our customers faced with the daunting task of moving. When we move an item from one place to another, the object may no longer be suited for the new place. It may also be the case that the customer needs to temporarily store the object in a separate location such as a storage space. A storage space costs $100 per month minimum for a 10’ x 10’ (and they have been gotten significantly more expensive after COVID). A separate monthly insurance is also nearly always required, and customers still need to move the bulky items from their current residence to the storage unit, then from the storage unit to their new residence. The economics of keeping a heavy bulky item versus discarding them is not always straightforward. Here at Edison Junk Removal, we simplify our customers’ decision making process by taking the responsibility to sort out the reusable and the end-of-life items. When we remove items from your location, we donate items that can reused, recycle items that can be recycled, and safely dispose any end-of-life items that can no longer be used or recycled. In other words, whatever you don’t sell or move, we take care of the rest.
Tips for Effective Use of Junk Removal Services
While we are extremely flexible when it comes to accommodating any of our customers' needs, there are definitely a few tips for our customers to get the most out of our services. This can be especially handy if you are on a budget, so read on if you are interested!
1. Keep, Sell, Toss
One way that you can save time and money when decluttering is by dividing your space into three sections: Keep, Sell, Toss. The Keep section will have items that you definitely will not throw away. The Sell section will have items that you can part with for a bit of money. The Toss section will have items that you would happily throw away.
The benefit of dividing your belongings into three sections is that it gives you a strong visual cue regarding your attachment towards certain items. Among these sections, the Keep and Toss sections are unambiguous. The most interesting section is the Sell section, which is a pile of items that you are okay to get rid of if you got something in return. You should immediately put all of these items up for sale on marketplaces (e.g. Facebook Marketplace, eBay) for a price that you personally deem fair. Now, most of your items will not sell at prices that you deem fair, but at a steep discount. Every week, discount the prices of unsold items by $5 or $10. If the items sell, you have gotten some money for them. If items are unsold, then you can simply recategorize the items to Keep or Toss. This is a powerful exercise when decluttering because it gives you an objective market value of the items that you own and it can help you reduce extraneous levels of attachment for items.

2. Group Your Junk
Whether you are decluttering a single space or multiple spaces, one of the most useful things that you can do is to gather all of the junk into a single location. This single location can be your garage, an unused room or closet, or even a dedicated section of an actively used room. However, what must absolutely be avoided is to mix any junk with items that you actually need. Many times, we see a customer do everything right by gathering all of the junk in her excess closet until she realizes that there are still items that she needs in there. Sifting through piles of items at the last minute can be a stressful and time consuming ordeal so be sure that any piles you create only contain items that you are confident that they can be discarded!
When you gather you junk (and only your junk!) in a single section of your space, it has the following benefits: 1) Junk Removal Service is extremely fast and often cheaper. We can minimize any deliberations, back and forth and quickly have you to reclaim your space 2) You can minimize disruptions in your daily use of your space as the junk is not scattered throughout 3) Gathering junk provides the mind with a sense of progress, which can help you overcome a loss of motivation when it comes to cleaning.

3. Take Care of Large Items First
If you are getting started with deep cleaning, take care of the large items first. Large items such as old appliances, couches, and mattresses are low-hanging fruits that can make an immediate difference in your perception of progress both visually and in reality. If you live in an area that offers Municipal Special Pick-up services, then you can contact the Township of Edison to schedule a pick-up. In all other cases, you can call Edison Junk Removal for your bulky item hauling needs. Alternatively, you can also choose to call a dumpster rental service to have a designated area to toss your heavy bulky items.
4. Give Us a Call
As you begin to delve deeper into your major cleaning journey, you will realize that there are a myriad of rules and regulations associated with garbage disposal. Some of these regulations are fascinating, but most are pedestrian. When you call us, you won't have to worry about nor keep track of all of the regulations because we will automate that process for you. We adhere to all of the regulations imposed by the municipality. We will separate all of your junk and discard or donate them in the most sustainable way as possible.

The Golden Rule
We respect your time, your money, and your physical space. Within work and outside of work, we, too, are customers of many businesses in the area.
